Traditional food

Those who prefer traditional Cypriot food have to look for the restaurants which are marked as traditionally Greek. Here they can order Turkish kebab, meze, grilled meat with vegetables and Cypriot alcohols. In the cities dining is much expensive than in the restaurants located in the countryside. The best solution is to go outside the city centre, there you can pay less for your food but also receive bigger and more delicious dishes.
Vegetarians will not have much problems while staying in Cyprus – restaurants serve also typically vegetable or fish dishes, especially seafood. Fish from the local harbour are really worth trying, their freshness is guaranteed. Local desserts are also very tasty. Most of the snacks are dipped in caramel, icing made of grape molasses and rosy water, typical confectionery suplement. Honey, nuts, almonds and rosy oils are the basic ingredients of very sweet pies and cookies.
On the street stalls you can buy all kinds of fruit accessible on the island, but their price may depend on how we look like. The street sellers do not give exact prices and when they see the particular customer they decide how much this kind of fruit costs. That is why you should consider going to the Saturday market and buy there sesonal fruit for more reasonable price.
The most popular alcohol among the tourists is Commandoria, typical especially for Limassol, where it is produced. In Cyprus people usually drink wine and local beer  lager, produced by the Cypriot KEO brewery.
